LED screens for meeting and conference rooms

An LED screen for a meeting room or conference hall replaces the projector and the wall of monitors: it is visible with the lights on and with daylight from the windows, it has no seams between panels, and there is nothing in it to burn out. It connects like an ordinary monitor — from a laptop over HDMI, through a wireless presentation system or a video-conferencing codec. We installed such screens in the conference hall of Holiday Inn Almaty, in the Kazakhstan Hotel and in the RAMS sales office.

Size and pixel pitch for the depth of the room

In a meeting room people sit close, so the pitch is chosen by the front row: from two metres P1.53, P1.86 and P2 show no grain, with a comfortable viewing distance from 2 m by specification. For a room six to eight metres deep P2.5 is enough; for a hotel conference hall with back rows at ten metres and more, P3 and P4 work — the Kazakhstan Hotel has exactly P4.

Size is calculated from the farthest seat: screen height should be at least one sixth of the distance to it, otherwise a table in a presentation cannot be read. A 16:9 format is assembled without trimming: 2.56×1.44 m of 320×160 mm modules gives a 1024×576 pixel canvas at P2.5, and 5.12×2.88 m of 640×640 and 640×320 mm cabinets gives 2560×1440 at P2. Slides from a laptop scale onto such a canvas without distortion.

Connection: presentations, video calls, business-centre lobby

The signal arrives at a video processor, which distributes it to the cabinets. Inputs are HDMI and DVI, so a laptop, the room PC, a wireless presentation system and a video-conferencing codec all connect to the screen. Multi-window mode shows remote participants and slides at the same time, and layout presets switch from a remote or a tablet. Indoor models have no fans: nothing hums during a meeting, and the conference microphones pick up no noise.

In the lobby of a business centre or hotel the task is different: wayfinding, the event schedule, tenant advertising. Automatic brightness control matters here — in the morning the sun comes through the glazing, in the evening soft light is needed. Content is uploaded remotely, and one screen or a network of screens across floors is managed from a single administrator workstation.

Installation without a recess and maintenance

The 640×640, 640×480 and 640×320 mm cast-aluminium cabinets are 65 mm deep and weigh 12–16 kg, so the screen hangs on a solid wall or a partition with embedded fixings without a recess, like a large television. Modules come off the front on magnets: the screen sits flush to the wall, and replacing a module needs no rear access. Rated consumption is up to 800 W/m² peak and about 320 W/m² average at working brightness — a 3–4 m² screen needs one dedicated line from the distribution board.

In a working office we install at weekends or in the evening so the meeting rooms keep running.
