LED screen at the NGS private school

The NGS private school in Almaty (4 Zhangir Khan Street) uses its sports hall for more than PE lessons: it also hosts celebrations, competitions, concerts and whole-school assemblies. In early April 2021 KazLedPro installed an LED screen and stage lighting in the hall so that it could turn from a sports hall into an assembly hall within an hour. The video above shows the result.

What we did

The screen. An LED screen with a P4 pixel pitch, built from 256×256 mm modules. The minimum distance from viewer to screen is 4 metres: for a sports hall, where spectators sit in the stands and stand along the walls, this is the optimal pitch — the image is dense and the cost is lower than a fine-pitch screen intended for a meeting room. During matches the screen shows the score and the timer, at concerts backdrops and video clips, at assemblies presentations.

Truss-mounted lighting. We assembled a metal truss and hung the lighting fixtures from it. The truss answers the main question in a sports hall — where to mount lighting so that it does not interfere with games: the fixtures are raised above the playing area and are switched on only for events.

Why this particular screen

A sports hall is a room with a high ceiling and strong overhead light. A projector is useless here, and a television is too small. An LED screen is visible from the far stand with the lights fully on, and a P4 pitch gives enough detail for scoreboards and presentations without paying for density that the eye can no longer resolve from 4 metres.
