A 108 m² screen on the Altyn Orda facade

The largest object in this series and the only outdoor one: an LED screen of about 108 m² on the facade of the Altyn Orda market in Almaty. This is no longer store decoration but a city-scale advertising medium.

Why P8 is the right choice

A coarse pitch on an outdoor screen is not a saving, it is a calculation. Comfortable viewing distance is roughly the pixel pitch expressed in metres: for P8 that is about 8 metres, while the screen is actually viewed from 20 to 100 metres — from the road, the car park, the market rows. At that range the eye cannot resolve a finer image, while the price per square metre rises steeply as the pitch drops. Specifying P4 here would have doubled the budget for a difference nobody would see.

Structure

The panel is assembled from 96 × 96 cm cabinets, which made it possible to form a large, even surface from repeating elements. A reinforced steel frame was fabricated for a structure of this scale: an outdoor screen carries not only its own weight but wind load across the whole area. The sides are clad in sheet metal, closing off the edges, the fixings and the cabling.

Location: Rayimbek Avenue

The defining feature of the site is its position next to Rayimbek Avenue, one of the busiest arterial roads in the city. The screen stands almost along the road, so its area works both on traffic and on market visitors.

High-brightness modules are mandatory here: an outdoor screen competes with direct sun, and without brightness headroom the picture washes out in daylight.
