LED screen for the Evraziya TV studio

The Evraziya TV studio in Nur-Sultan (the city is once again called Astana today) is a filming venue where the screen stands not for an audience in the room but for the camera. In early August 2021 KazLedPro supplied and installed an LED screen with a P2 pixel pitch here. Television’s requirements are stricter than those of any assembly hall: the canvas appears in close-up shots, and any dot, banding or flicker shows up immediately on air.

What we did

We installed an indoor LED screen with a fine P2 pitch — a video wall to dress the studio. At this pitch individual pixels are indistinguishable from 2 metres away, so the presenter can stand directly in front of the screen while the camera shoots them in close-up against a background of graphics, reports and live links. Such a screen can replace printed sets and a chroma key: the background changes for every programme in a minute, and the picture on camera looks natural, with no green fringe around the presenter.

Why this screen

Three things matter for a studio. The first is pitch: P2 is needed so that close-range shots show neither graininess nor moiré on the pixel grid. The second is image stability: a studio screen has to work without banding or flicker on camera at the shutter speeds a television camera uses. The third is colour: a television picture requires an even white and predictable tones across the whole canvas, otherwise the background drifts from shot to shot. A fine-pitch LED screen solves all three, which neither a projector nor a mosaic of television panels can do.
