LED screen at an institute

The lobby of an educational institution is the place every student and lecturer passes through each day, and a university has no better spot for announcements. In early February 2021 KazLedPro installed an LED screen in the lobby of an institute at 300/26 Dostyk Avenue in Almaty. The task was to replace the noticeboard and printed posters with a single screen visible from the entrance. The video above shows the screen in the lobby.

What we did

We installed an LED screen built from 192×192 mm modules. The minimum viewer-to-screen distance is 2.5 metres: people come close in a lobby, so the pitch was chosen so that at that distance the picture is even and the timetable text reads without grain. The screen is driven from a computer: timetables, dean’s office announcements, greetings, videos about the university and broadcasts from the assembly hall — the content changes in a minute, and the playlist can be scheduled by time of day.

Why this screen

A lobby is a bright space, often with windows across the whole wall, and in daylight a projector or ordinary panels lose contrast. An LED screen stays readable here at any time of day. A pitch matched to a 2.5-metre distance is the balance between density and price: a denser pitch is only needed where the viewer stands right up close, a coarser one where the screen is tens of metres away. For an institute lobby this is exactly right.

What the institute got
